The Etsy seller Erik Soto Ayala switched to products with less competition
Soto Ayala, a former warehouse forklift operator, tried several side hustles before finding success on Etsy.
He experimented with Amazon FBA and drop-shipping, spending between $2,000 and $3,000 on each. He claimed, however, that they failed because he was “chasing an oversaturated market.”
When he opened an Etsy store in January 2022, he stated that he was willing to sell anything and researched products with little competition.
“Rather than selling brand names on Amazon, I saw a big opportunity with personalized gifts on Etsy,” he explained.
He developed the concept of personalized, engraved wallets after discovering that there were only a few competitors selling them. He believed he could outperform his competitors in terms of customer service.
He made $67,000 in profit in the first ten months of his business and quit his job in October.

The fitness instructor Lindsey Bomgren monetized her blog and YouTube videos with SEO
Bomgren claimed for years that she couldn’t attract enough readers to her fitness blog to make a living from advertising revenue.
She realized that creating content in response to Google searches could help her rank higher in search results and attract larger audiences.
She stated that she hired a company to conduct an SEO audit and began researching key words for her article titles.
Her blog earned $150,000 in ad revenue from January to April 2023.

Alexa Nizam grew her clientele by improving her Fiverr profile
In April 2020, Nizam created a Fiverr profile to offer freelance copywriting services. Outside of friends and family, she had not heard from a single prospective client in months.
She saw a TikTok video from another Fiverr freelancer, Alexandra Fasulo, in which she explained to her audience how she “optimized” her profile. Fasulo advised freelancers to use photos and fill up all available space in gig descriptions and bios to describe themselves and their services.
Nizam tried this in March 2021, and she had her first client within a few weeks. She claimed to make up to $13,000 per month in 2022.
