Clayton grass fire near San Jose is now 97 percent contained
Cal Fire announced Saturday evening that a grass fire that charred the hills east of San Jose was 97 percent contained.
The Clayton Fire began Thursday afternoon around Clayton Road and Via De La Vista and spread to nearly 70 acres. It briefly gained tier three status after threatening multiple structures, but none were damaged.
At one point, a Cal Fire helicopter sucked water from Lake Cunningham to help put out the fire. The fire’s origin is being investigated.
