Two men killed, another wounded in two Oakland shootings Monday

The two slayings took place on International Boulevard and the area of 37th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way

OAKLAND, Calif. — According to authorities, the 75th and 76th homicides of 2023 occurred in Oakland within about six hours of each other Monday night.

The first of two shootings occurred shortly before 5 p.m. at a residence in East Oakland’s 2300 block of International Boulevard. One man died at the scene, and a 20-year-old man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower leg.

The name of the man killed was not immediately released by authorities pending confirmation and notification of his next of kin.

The reason for the shooting is being investigated, and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.

A 39-year-old Oakland man was found shot in a vehicle that crashed near 37th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way around 9:50 p.m. He was declared dead at the scene.

Police said they were still trying to figure out where the shooting happened. There was no motive established, and no suspects were identified.

Following the two homicides, Oakland police have investigated 76 homicides this year. Last year at this time, there were 82 murders.

Police and Crime Stoppers in Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the shooter in the International Boulevard shooting, and $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the shooter in the later killing.
