Here’s who will moderate the Republican presidential debate at the Reagan Library
The second Republican presidential debate, scheduled for late September at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, will be moderated by Fox News’ Stuart Varney and Dana Perino, as well as Univision’s Ilia Calderón.
The debate will air on Fox Business Network and Univision on September 27th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. local time.
Varney, the host of “Varney & Co.” on Fox Business, has been an anchor with the network since its inception in 2007. He provided analysis for Fox Business’ coverage of the 2022 midterm elections.
Perino co-hosted a Fox News pre-debate show for the first GOP presidential debate earlier this month in Milwaukee. She co-anchors Fox’s “America’s Newsroom” and co-hosts “The Five.” During the George W. Bush administration, Perino was the White House press secretary.
Calderón co-hosts Univision’s weekday evening newscast “Noticiero Univision” as well as its primetime newsmagazine “Aqui y Ahora.” According to a news release, she is the first Afro-Latina to anchor an evening newscast for a major broadcast network in the country.
“We are very proud to have Stuart Varney and Dana Perino co-moderating the second debate with Univision to provide Americans with a comprehensive view of the qualifying candidates vying for the Republican nomination for president,” Fox News Media president and executive editor Jay Wallace said in a statement.
But it’s unclear whether Trump, who skipped the first one, will attend this time.
The former president stated on his social media site earlier this month that he would skip the debates, but it was unclear which ones he meant. He previously chastised the Reagan Library for being chosen for a debate because its longtime board chair, Frederick Ryan Jr., was the publisher of the Washington Post. (In June, Ryan announced his departure from the Washington Post to lead the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute’s new Center on Public Civility.)
Two days after the Simi Valley debate, presidential candidates including Trump, DeSantis, Scott, and Ramaswamy will travel to Anaheim for the fall convention of the California Republican Party.
