I-580 Westbound Oakland traffic jammed as police investigate possible highway shooting
Two cars were left abandoned near Seminary Avenue after a possible highway shooting, an official with the California Highway Patrol said.
Traffic slowed to a halt on I-580 Westbound in Oakland on Saturday evening after two cars were abandoned near Seminary Avenue following a highway shooting that left two people with gunshot wounds, according to a California Highway Patrol official.
At 4:03 p.m., CHP officers responded to a call that two vehicles had been abandoned on the highway. When investigators arrived on the scene, they discovered that both vehicles had been abandoned.
Investigators later discovered that two gunshot victims had abandoned a black Chevrolet SUV parked on the highway’s right shoulder. The shooting did not involve the second vehicle, a black Mercedes SUV that was stalled in the middle of the highway.
Two victims with gunshot wounds self-admitted to a local hospital shortly after the cars were discovered abandoned. A third vehicle traveling eastbound was also struck by a stray bullet, but no one was injured.
After initially closing to traffic around 4:55 p.m., all westbound lanes reopened.
