San Leandro: Woman shot and killed during domestic dispute
A man was taken into custody following the incident Wednesday morning in the 16000 block of Foothill Boulevard
SAN LEANDRO, CA – Authorities said a man shot and killed a woman during a domestic dispute in unincorporated San Leandro on Wednesday morning.
According to Lt. Tya Modeste of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, the dispute was reported around 9:30 a.m. at an apartment in the 16000 block of Foothill Boulevard.
Deputies, including those with crisis intervention training, arrived on the scene and attempted to contact the apartment’s occupants, according to Modeste. Deputies heard yelling in the background during a phone call and decided they needed to enter the apartment.
Deputies heard what sounded like a gunshot as they prepared to enter the apartment, according to Modeste. A man in his fifties then exited the apartment and surrendered to police.
Inside the apartment, deputies discovered the body of a woman. A gun was also found. There was no one else in the apartment.
According to Modeste, the man and woman appeared to be dating at the time of the shooting.
It was unclear whether law enforcement had previously been called to the apartment.
