Pedestrian killed in East San Jose on Tuesday was hit by a garbage truck, police said
The man killed was yet to be identified by coroners as of Wednesday
SAN JOSE, Calif. — According to authorities, a garbage truck driver struck and killed a man as he pulled out of an East San Jose parking lot early Tuesday morning.
At 3:23 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to the 40 block of South Jackson Avenue. According to preliminary findings, a man driving a 2021 Peterbilt garbage truck struck a man while exiting a rear parking lot.
The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. He had yet to be publicly identified by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner as of Wednesday morning.
The driver stayed at the scene and assisted the investigation. Authorities have not released any additional information about how the crash occurred.
This was the 40th traffic fatality on San Jose streets in 2023, and the 23rd pedestrian fatality.
