One arrested, four others sought in San Jose smash-and-grab robbery at Gucci store

Suspects stole $50,000 worth of merchandise from Westfield Valley Fair mall Gucci store on Oct. 5

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Police said a 27-year-old Nevada man is in custody and four others are wanted in connection with a smash-and-grab robbery at Westfield Valley Fair mall last week.

According to a news release issued by the San Jose Police Department on Tuesday, five masked male suspects entered the Gucci store on Oct. 5 and stole $50,000 in purses and other merchandise.

One of the suspects was detained by an officer, who “immediately resisted” and threw punches, according to police. After a brief struggle, mall security personnel assisted the officer in taking the suspect into custody.

The suspect was arrested in Santa Clara County for assault on an officer, organized retail theft, possession of burglary tools, robbery, and a Nevada warrant.

According to police, two stolen purses were recovered.

According to police, the other suspects fled before additional officers arrived.

According to police, detectives are using video footage and other evidence to identify the fugitives. The suspects’ entry into the Gucci store was captured on video and released on Tuesday.
