Shooting leaves another man dead in Oakland, the 101st homicide this year

The man was pronounced dead at the scene in North Oakland.

On Saturday night, a 39-year-old man was found shot and pronounced dead near 42nd Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way around 7:40 p.m. Oakland’s homicide rate rose to at least 101.

Police are still trying to confirm the man’s identity, and no motive, suspect, or arrests had been announced as of Saturday night. On Friday night, another shooting killed a 30-year-old man and injured two others, bringing the city’s homicide total to 100.

Oakland has had 100 or more homicides for the fourth year in a row. By this time last year, the city had recorded 104 homicides, with 122 recorded by 2022.
