Prep roundup: Campolindo, St. Ignatius volleyball, Miramonte water polo, Aragon, Pioneer flag football among winners

Girls volleyball
Campolindo 3, Freedom 0
Campolindo, seeded fourth, defeated 13th-seeded Freedom in the first round of the North Coast Section Division II playoffs on Wednesday.
Setter Rachel Andre led an attack that included 13 kills from Hanna Bjornson and 10 from Aveya Stone with 41 assists.
Ava Rogers had seven kills, and Mia Wallach had six.
Lexie Tucker had four aces on 14 serve attempts, and Gia Okulicz had a strong match both serving and receiving.
Kyla Powell had five kills, six digs, and three aces for Freedom, Nielly Cautiverio had nine digs, and Madison Perry had four kills.
On Saturday, Campo will host fifth-seeded Carondelet.
Carondelet advanced with a 25-11, 25-20, 25-15 victory over Washington-Fremont, who was seeded 12th.
In other NCS D-II action, American defeated No. 9 Northgate 25-23, 25-16. 25-19 to set up a second-round match against top-seeded Branson on Saturday.
No. 11 seed Las Lomas defeated No. 6 seed Ukiah 15-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-23 in the night’s biggest upset. On Saturday, the Knights will travel to No. 3 seed Windsor.
In Division IV, Head-Royce will host No. 5 St. Mary’s-Berkeley on Saturday after both teams won their first-round matches.
St. Mary’s defeated No. 12 Roseland University Prep 21-25, 25-18, 17-25, 25-17, 15-4, and Head-Royce defeated No. 13 Urban 25-19, 25-18, 25-18.
No. 5 St. Ignatius 3, No. 7 Valley Christian 1
St. Ignatius, ranked fifth by the Bay Area News Group, defeated host Valley Christian 25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 27-25 with 16 kills and three blocks from Carol Manu and 10 kills from Suraya Newman. SI’s Jamie Lo had 25 digs and Logan Stern had 20 assists. After Mitty and St. Francis, the Wildcats finished third in the league.
Girls water polo
Campolindo 8, Acalanes 5
Sydney Kring made 14 saves and Ana Pieper scored four goals to help lead visiting Campolindo to a Diablo Athletic League Foothill Division victory over rival Acalanes on Wednesday night.
Campo also received two goals from London Menard, one from Sammy Frazier and one from Lily Holloway, four steals from Ainsley Hogan, and two drawn ejections from Nikki Frazier.
The Cougars took control early on, scoring three goals in the first quarter to finish the regular season 17-6 overall and 4-2 in the division. Acalanes was defeated 18-6, 3-3.
Campo coach Kim Everist stated that her team “did a nice job of neutralizing key Acalanes players and controlling the game.” It was a crucial victory as we prepare for the playoffs.”
The NCS playoffs begin the following week.
Miramonte 18, Las Lomas 9
With a road victory over Las Lomas, Miramonte clinched first place in the DAL Foothill Division. The Mats will enter the NCS playoffs with an overall record of 22-2. They finished league play with a 5-1 record, one game better than Campolindo. Las Lomas went winless in the tough Foothill Division but finished 14-10 overall. Las Lomas were led by Lily Palma’s five goals on Wednesday. Sierra Brown had two goals and two assists, Teagan Claus had a goal and two assists, Rachel Eger had a goal and an assist, and Avery Bouyea and Makena Dietschy each had two assists.
Terra Nova 9, Half Moon Bay 8
Terra Nova rallied late to defeat rival Half Moon Bay in a wild match to determine which team advanced to the CCS playoffs. Terra Nova finished third in the Bay Division of the Peninsula Athletic League. In the PAL Ocean Division, Half Moon Bay went 14-0. HMB led for much of the match, but Terra Nova rallied despite losing three players to three ejections each. Terra Nova goalkeeper Sydney Bolander finished the game on the field. Terra Nova’s goals came from Malia Smith, Jordan Arnaudo, Sascha Ebinger, and Sonny Guilbaddouline. “Great finish to the regular season, and now we move on to CCS,” Terra Nova coach Don Potter wrote in an email. Claire Lowings led HMB with three goals and multiple steals. Lily Conaghan scored twice, and Josie Nelson, Zoe McAnerney, and goalie Phoebe Grant each had one.
Water polo for boys
Miramonte 14, Las Lomas 5
Miramonte finished DAL Foothill Division play undefeated with a win over Las Lomas, with Patrick Stice scoring four goals and Grant Kurtz, Griff Tunney, and Tristan Tucker each scoring two. Nick Bea, Jack Behles, Brock Bliss, and Oliver Sherwood also scored for the Mats, who won their second league title in a row. “The guys played excellent team defense on Las Lomas’ ball-side attack offense tonight,” said Miramonte coach John Nash via email. “This was a great way to build momentum heading into North Coast Section playoffs next week.”
Hillsdale 14, Burlingame 13
Josiah Yeager of Loyola Marymount filled the stat sheet with 10 goals, four steals, and three assists to lead Hillsdale to a narrow victory in a PAL play-in game for CCS. In the fourth quarter, Yeager scored three goals. The Knights (14-7) were led by Mathew Love, who scored four goals. Alex Bozinovic scored six goals for Burlingame, and Matthew Derossett added three.
James Logan 15, Irvington 2
Logan jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to two goals from Jacob Campa and Christian Lopez, and cruised to a one-sided victory in the Mission Valley Athletic League quarterfinals at home. Noah Defaii added two goals and Landon Cleveland added three in the fourth quarter for the Colts, who face Washington in the semifinals on Thursday. Last week, the Colts needed triple overtime to defeat Washington and finish the regular season.
Washington-Fremont 15, Moreau Catholic 9
Washington defeated Moreau Catholic in the first round of the MVAL tournament at James Logan thanks to five goals from Radu Costache and three assists from Jack Lamont. Derek Ponssen and Denton Phillips also scored twice for the Huskies.

Aragon 21, Woodside 12
Quinn Shirley returned an interception for a touchdown, and Maya Yoo added two touchdowns and an extra point to help Aragon defeat Woodside. “Quinn Shirley was a defensive machine, sacking the quarterback and intercepting the ball for a touchdown,” Aragon coach Barbara Beaumont said in an email. “Both offense and defense performed admirably!” I am pleased to report that our entire team was able to participate in tonight’s game!!” Maya Pappas scored two free throws, and Yoo also had an interception.
Pioneer 14, Soquel 6
Pioneer defeated Soquel, 11-3-1, thanks to Abbie Mackintosh’s touchdown reception and two interceptions, and Sara Maccioni’s touchdown reception and two-point conversion. Elizabeth Phinney threw for both touchdowns and the two-point conversion. Pioneer’s Jessica Tonegato had four sacks and 68 yards rushing, and Hailey Martinez had an interception and seven flags.
Carlmont 12, Mills 7
Mills took a 7-6 lead after Brooke Phimsouthan caught a long touchdown pass from Luna Mengel-Yoshimura. Alessandra Nelson, however, scored a late touchdown and then made the game-winning interception to lift Carlmont to victory. “In total, I thought our team played at a championship caliber, though we still have many areas to improve on,” Carlmont coach Oscar Cortez III said in an email. “Kudos to the team’s resilient spirit and to Mills’ stout defense.”
