Special Athlete of the Week citation: Kamarri Robinson, Livermore football
Livermore’s Kamarri Robinson rushes for 534 yards against Dublin. ‘Wildest thing I have seen,’ coach says.
The Bay Area News Group honors Livermore running back Kamarri Robinson, who did not win this week’s boys poll but had one of California’s all-time great rushing games last week against Dublin.
Robinson, a junior, led Livermore to a 45-34 victory by rushing for 534 yards and five touchdowns on 29 attempts.
According to Cal-Hi Sports, the yardage ranks fifth all-time in state history.
“Thank you for recognizing this,” said Livermore coach John Wade in a text message on Thursday. “Wildest thing I have seen in 31 years of coaching.”
Ronney Jenkins of Hueneme-Oxnard holds the state record with 619 yards rushing in 1995.
Robinson, who stands 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds, broke Livermore’s school record twice this season, rushing for 317 yards against Castro Valley and 355 yards against Foothill.
He ran 13 times for 179 yards and two touchdowns in the first half against Dublin, then 16 times for 355 yards and three touchdowns in the second half.
“As the game is going on, you think it’s a lot,” Wade said last weekend. “But the game remained close, so we were focused on the game.” I got home and stayed up all night charting the game because I couldn’t believe it.”
