Teams that have been ranked
No. 1 Serra 24, No. 4 Valley Christian 13
In a season full of blowouts, Serra led Valley Christian 14-13 late in the third quarter on the road in this West Catholic Athletic League game. Then, with 1:27 left in the third period, quarterback Maealiuaki Smith threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Kyon Loud, making the score 21-13. With 8:18 remaining, Thomas Gooch hit a 31-yard field goal. With one game remaining next Friday at home against St. Ignatius, Serra improved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the WCAL. Valley Christian’s record fell to 5-4, 2-4. Mike Lefkow has more information here.
No. 2 De La Salle 31, Monte Vista 7
Dominic Kelley scored from near the goal line, and Jaden Jefferson added a 62-yard scoring run later in the first half to put visiting De La Salle up 14-0. The Spartans went on to win easily on the road in Danville, improving to 7-2. Monte Vista dropped to 4-5. In the third quarter, Finn Sepic’s 23-yard field goal increased DLS’s lead to 17-0, and Derrick Blanche’s short run made it 24-7. The Spartans outgained Monte Vista 376 to 149 yards. De La Salle finishes the regular season at home against Clayton Valley next Friday, while Monte Vista travels to San Ramon Valley. Darren Sabedra’s
No. 3 San Ramon Valley 45, Foothill 14
Luke Baker threw for five touchdowns and 350 yards to lead SRV to a lopsided EBAL Mountain victory at home. Owen Scott had two touchdown receptions, and Marco Jones plowed into the end zone on fourth-and-1. Dominick Camera intercepted a pass as SRV’s defense kept Foothill at bay for the majority of the game. SRV (8-1, 3-0) finishes the regular season at home against Monte Vista on Friday. Foothill (1-7, 0-3) concludes its season at California on Friday. Darren Sabedra’s
No. 4 Pittsburg 34, No. 17 Liberty 13
The Pirates scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to break open a close first half. Elijah Bow ran for two touchdowns and Noah Quesada caught one of two touchdown passes from QB Marley Alcantara as Pittsburg turned a 14-0 halftime lead into a 34-7 fourth-quarter rout. The Pirates (9-0, 4-0 Bay Valley Athletic League) will play Antioch in the Big Little Game next Saturday and will have a chance to complete a perfect regular season for the first time in decades. During the Covid-shortened 2020, Pittsburg went 5-0. Pitt hasn’t been perfect during a full regular season since the 1960s, according to Pirates coach Charlie Ramirez. Bow rushed 29 times for 174 yards, falling 15 yards short of 1,000 yards for the season. RB Jamar Searcy, a Liberty transfer, scored in the first quarter to make it 7-0, and Alcantara connected with Jaydn Hudson to make it 14-0 at the half. In addition to a perfect regular season, the Pitt-Antioch game will determine the BVAL champion. With a win, the Pirates will win the league outright, but an Antioch win could result in a three-way tie with Liberty (6-3, 3-1). The Lions, who defeated Antioch 41-40 earlier this month, will face Heritage in their regular-season finale on Friday. Jaxon Bell, a sophomore running back, scored one of Liberty’s touchdowns against the Pirates, giving him 22 rushing touchdowns on the season. – Michael Lefkow
No. 11 St. Francis 27, No. 5 Archbishop Riordan 20
Kingston Keanaaina rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries, and a defense led by the Cahoon brothers, Jackson and Chase, at linebacker, Afoa Tuua on the line, and Mack Mrowka in the secondary held visiting Riordan scoreless late in WCAL play. More information is available from Joseph Dycus.
No. 6 El Cerrito 56, De Anza 0
Michael Vanhook threw for 109 yards and three touchdowns, and Lonzell Taylor ran twice for 90 yards and two scores to lead El Cerrito to a TCAL Rock Division victory over De Anza. Micah Avery had 79 yards and a touchdown on eight carries for El Cerrito, which improved to 7-1 heading into next week’s regular-season finale at Salesian. Vanhook threw touchdown passes of 26 yards to Zilton, 58 yards to Gary Youngblood, and 15 yards to Jayvon Bolds. Sione Fanaika had a pick-six and Ziare Eastman had 81 yards on six carries for the Gauchos. De Anza dropped to 1-7, 1-2. Darren Sabedra’s
No. 7 McClymonds 33, Oakland 0
Redmani Albert thrived in his transition from wide receiver to quarterback, throwing one touchdown and rushing for another in McClymonds’ third straight Oakland Athletic League shutout. Beginning in the second quarter, there was a running clock. In their three league games, the Warriors have won by a combined score of 156-0. John “Sharky” Tamale also scored on the ground, and William Puamau caught Albert’s touchdown pass. Interceptions were recorded by Markus Thomas, Dominic Davis, and Adon Dent. Dent scored after returning his pick. Isaac Espinosa connected on a 43-yard field goal. On Friday, McClymonds (5-2, 3-0) travels to Fremont-Oakland, while Oakland (5-3, 1-2) hosts Oakland Tech. — Dycus, Joseph
No. 25 Clayton Valley 33, No. 8 California 24
For the Ugly Eagles, quarterback Tyson Lovett had a big game. He ran 16 yards for Clayton Valley’s first touchdown, threw two touchdown passes, and ran in the 2-point conversion after the Uglies’ final touchdown. The lead changed hands five times in this back-and-forth contest. Clayton Valley (5-4, 3-1 EBAL Mountain) took a 25-24 lead with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter. Will Carranza kicked the extra point after Lovett threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Logan Knapp. With four minutes remaining, Jahson Jones’ 8-yard run, followed by Lovett’s 2-point conversion, increased the visitors’ lead to nine points. California (5-4, 1-2) now appears to be on the outside looking in in the North Coast Section’s tough 11-team Division I. Because the NCS determines its divisions before the season, there is no flexibility for a team like the Grizzlies to drop to a lower division, even though the calpreps.com computer ranks them as the section’s seventh-best team. The playoffs feature 56 NCS schools spread across eight seven-team brackets. Cal will play Foothill on Friday. Clayton Valley will travel to De La Salle. – Michael Lefkow
No. 9 Los Gatos 24, No. 10 Wilcox 21
Boxer Kopcsak-Yeung scored on a 7-yard run with 23.5 seconds left to cap a 79-yard, two-minute drill drive, giving Los Gatos a share of the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division title. The Wildcats can win the championship outright if they beat Menlo-Atherton next week. Kopcsak-Yeung also scored on a blocked punt. The full recap can be found here, thanks to Darren Sabedra.
No. 12 St. Ignatius 28, No. 16 Mitty 21
Jarious Hogan scored three short touchdown runs to lead St. Ignatius 21-7 at halftime. The Wildcats increased their lead to 28-7 on a scoring run by Cam Jones, then held on to defeat Mitty in the West Catholic Athletic League. Mitty scored three times on the ground, two by Joey Campagna and one by Jonah Kroenung. Caden Allard and Toju Maku each had two receiving touchdowns. On Friday night, St. Ignatius (6-3, 4-2) will travel to Serra, while Mitty (5-4, 2-4) will host Valley Christian at Foothill College. Glenn Reeves’
No. 13 Amador Valley 48, Dublin 0
The Dons finished their regular season with a 34-0 halftime lead and another easy win. Amador Valley has outscored its opponents 208-7 in four games since falling to Foothill 12-7 on September 22. All four wins came against EBAL Valley opponents. The Dons (7-2, 4-0) will now have to wait until Nov. 5 to find out where they will be seeded in the North Coast Section playoffs in the Open/Division I bracket. According to the calpreps.com computer rankings, the Dons could be as high as a fourth seed, which would mean a home game against Clayton Valley. Tristan Tia, who had to sit out the first five games after transferring from Granada, threw for five touchdowns and over 300 yards against Dublin. The Gaels (4-5, 0-3) fell for the fifth time in six games and will almost certainly need to beat Dougherty Valley next Friday to qualify for the D-II playoffs. – Michael Lefkow
No. 15 Menlo School 33, Half Moon Bay 0
Menlo, which won the PAL De Anza Division title last week, finished division play undefeated with a road win over Half Moon Bay. If the Knights win the Valpo Bowl at home next Friday against rival Sacred Heart Prep, they will finish the regular season 10-0. Mikey McGrath completed 6 of 12 passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns on Friday. Willis Johnson rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries, and Ryan Jabal caught three passes for 91 yards. Menlo led 7-0 at halftime and then blew it open in the third quarter with 19 points. Menlo’s second shutout of the season. The Knights (9-0, 5-0) have a 270-96 advantage over their opponents. HMB dropped to 2-7, 1-4. Darren Sabedra’s
No. 18 Acalanes 34, No. 19 Las Lomas 14
Jack Giorgianni rushed for all 83 yards in the fourth quarter to lead Acalanes’ punishing ground game, as the Dons handed Las Lomas its first loss of the season. Acalanes remained unbeaten in DAL Foothill play with one interception each from Trevor Rogers, Jake Boselli, and Gavin Bender in a game that was closer than the final score indicated. Joseph Dycus was in Walnut Creek at the time and has the complete story.
No. 21 Campolindo 41, Miramonte 21
Campolindo kept its hopes of a DAL Foothill Division title alive by scoring two touchdowns in the third quarter against visiting Miramonte. Sebastien Antonios-McCrea scored on a 5-yard run to make it 21-7, and Mack Fisher’s 10-yard run increased the lead to 28-7. Joe Revelos then caught a 50-yard pass to set up Jake Spencer’s 5-yard run early in the fourth quarter to make it 35-7. Micah Parker’s 30-yard run extended the lead to 41-7 after Luke Bonardi’s interception. The first 24 minutes of the game were much tighter. Miramonte tied the game 7-7 on a touchdown pass from Carson Blair to Gabe Roman after Scott Lyon scored on a 5-yard reception to put Campo up 7-0. Campo took the lead again on a 10-yard touchdown reception from Tim Daugherty, who set up the score with a long catch. Spencer intercepted a pass just before halftime, keeping the score at 14-7. If Campo wins at Acalanes on Friday, the teams will share the division title or be tied for third place with Los Lomas. On Friday, Miramonte (6-2, 3-2) will host Las Lomas. Darren Sabedra’s
No. 22 Christopher 42, Leland 0
Jaxen Robinson completed 10 of 20 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns and added a 3-yard run for Christopher. Matthew Boles and Saed Mustafa were the recipients of his touchdown passes. Will Rizqallah gained 108 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. Amari Bluford scored after returning an interception. On defense, linebackers Nick Strangis and Evan Vernon stood out. Christopher (9-0, 4-0 BVAL Mt. Hamilton) hosts undefeated Live Oak on Friday with the division title on the line. On Friday, Leland (2-7, 1-3) travels to Lincoln. Glenn Reeves’
No. 23 Antioch 44, Deer Valley 21
Quarterback Larenzo Mayfield scored five of Antioch’s six touchdowns – three rushing, two passing – to set up a Bay Valley Athletic League title game against Pittsburg next Saturday. If Antioch (7-2, 3-1) defeats Pittsburg (9-0, 4-0) for the third time since 2006, the BVAL standings will be tied at least twice and possibly three times. Liberty is 3-1 and will play host to Heritage on Friday. Deer Valley (3-6, 0-4) did not go down without a fight. At the half, it was only down 24-14. However, Mayfield’s running and touchdown passes to Angel Jr Buezo and Kha’mahri Jones ensured the Panthers’ 10th consecutive victory over their crosstown rivals. The Panthers’ Yusef Jenkins also scored on the ground. – Michael Lefkow
No. 24 Live Oak 28, Oak Grove 10
Luke Newell threw two touchdown passes and Zach Rocha had a big game as Live Oak defeated Oak Grove to remain undefeated on Thursday. Newell completed eight of eleven passes for 144 yards. He hit Austin Jennings for a 6-yard touchdown and Tanner Holeman for a 66-yard touchdown. Rocha had 12 tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble in addition to blocking a field goal that Christian Hauge returned for a touchdown. Live Oak’s other touchdown came on a short run by Josh Gagni. With the victory, Live Oak (8-0, 4-0 BVAL Mt. Hamilton Division) keeps the Mt. Hamilton Division title on the line next Friday at Christopher, which has yet to lose this season. “A great matchup,” Live Oak coach Mike Gemo said. “It’s always been a good, hard-fought rivalry game.” Oak Grove (3-6, 1-3) finishes the regular season at home against Santa Teresa on Friday. Glenn Reeves’
East Bay
Berkeley 76, Mt. Eden 6
Berkeley scored 42 points in the first quarter of an MVAL/WACC Mission Division game that had a running clock for the entire second half, according to coach David Perry. To help lead the way, Deontae Faison threw for five touchdowns and ran for another, and Cahlil Snead caught two touchdown passes. Jalen Harris had one touchdown reception, and Kamren Bell ran for one and caught another. Adonis Cunningham-Wheeler, Nate Garland, and Drew Henderson all scored on the ground, and PJ Jataafa scored on a punt return. Jin Jones had three sacks, and defensive backs Robbie Jones and Leon McDaniels led a defense that did not allow a pass to be completed. Berkeley (6-3, 4-0) hosts Irvington on Friday, while Mt. Eden (0-9, 0-4) travels to Encinal on Saturday. — Dycus, Joseph
Heritage 35, Freedom 0
Heritage kept its NCS D-II playoff hopes alive with a 161-yard run by Mekhi Adanandus. The Patriots (4-5, 2-2 BVAL) are ranked sixth in their division by the calpreps.com computer, closely followed by Vintage, a team they’ve already defeated this season, and three East Bay Athletic League teams. Heritage’s regular season concludes Friday with a tough road game at Liberty. If the Patriots defeat the Lions, they will appear to be in the playoffs. A loss, on the other hand, means they’ll most likely need assistance to qualify. Against Freedom, Heritage had 429 yards of total offense, including 267 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Ilias Muhammad rushed for 63 yards and one touchdown. Phillip Babbitt and Austin Peters completed nine of ten passes for 162 yards and a touchdown. Brooks Davis hauled in four passes for 68 yards. J.J. Kinnaird was the one who caught the touchdown pass. Freedom dropped to 1-8, 0-4. In BVAL play, the Falcons have yet to score and have been outscored 174-0. – Michael Lefkow
James Logan 33, Bishop O’Dowd 29
Danzel Mercado caught two touchdown passes, including the game-winning touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the fourth quarter. The Colts’ quarterback, Jonathan Craft, had a big game, throwing three touchdown passes and running for another. Logan (5-4, 4-0 MVAL/WACC Foothill) has won five straight games but faces a must-win situation next Friday when it travels to Moreau Catholic. A win results in an outright championship and an invitation to the North Coast Section Open/Division I playoffs. If Logan loses to the Mariners, the Foothill Division will end in a two- or three-way tie, effectively eliminating him from the postseason. Bishop O’Dowd and Moreau Catholic are both 3-1 in the league, one game behind Logan, but are well-positioned for the playoffs due to their lower divisions. The Colts led 19-6 after one quarter, but the Dragons (5-4) rallied to take a 23-19 lead into the fourth. It stayed that way until the final four minutes, when the teams combined for three touchdowns. Logan scored to take a 26-23 lead, Bishop O’Dowd responded to make it 29-26, and Marcado scored on a short pass from Craft. “One of the best high school games I’ve ever seen,” said Logan coach Eddie Smith. O’Dowd quarterback Devin Wilson threw four touchdown passes, two to Miles Dixon and two to Deji Ajose. On Friday, the Dragons will play their regular-season finale against San Leandro. – Michael Lefkow

Deon Bier returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown for Alameda, and Will Hester and Sinisa Finau each had one sack. Alameda’s Dominic Hernandez had 13 tackles. They are tied for second place with Bishop O’Dowd, one game behind James Logan. On Friday, Moreau will play Logan to close out the regular season. On Friday, Tennyson (2-7, 1-3) travels to Castro Valley. Darren Sabedra’s

After starting the season with seven straight losses, the Broncos won their second game in a row. The teams combined for five touchdowns and 35 points in the third quarter of a non-league game at Northgate, and 10 points in the other three quarters. The lead changed hands five times before Northgate sealed the victory with a 65-yard run by Jake Berger in the third quarter and a 71-yard sprint to the end zone by Ben Hosler. Jordan McKinney caught both of the game’s touchdown passes, from 30 and 32 yards out. Carlmont, Fremont, and Woodside are now tied for second place in the PAL El Camino Division, one game behind champion Los Altos. If Fremont (6-3, 3-2) had won, it would have become one of El Camino’s two automatic qualifiers for the CCS playoffs, along with Los Altos. Instead, Woodside will receive the second bid due to victories over Carlmont and Fremont. Carlmont (3-6, 3-2) finishes the season at home against Sequoia on Thursday. On Friday, Fremont will host Homestead. Darren Sabedra’s
Del Mar 39, Gunderson 25
Del Mar rallied from a 17-0 halftime deficit to remain undefeated in BVAL West Valley play on Thursday. The result sets up a must-win game against Prospect next week for the division’s lone automatic CCS playoff spot. Gunderson’s lead was boosted by Andrew Fernandez’s 85-yard touchdown pass to Terreon Hunt and Marquise Hall’s 11-yard rushing touchdown. James Gray, the safety, had an interception. M-A coach Chris Saunders said DE Khayri Jett “provided a spark with his physicality” and Devin Hyde was “in the backfield disrupting everything.” “He’s one of the best edge players in the Bay Area, if not all of Northern California.” M-A (4-5, 2-2 PAL Bay) travels to Los Gatos on Friday. Burlingame (3-6, 1-4) plays San Mateo in the Little Big Game on Saturday. Glenn Reeves’

The Trojans scored four times to snap a three-game losing streak. Jackson and Atticus Roberts both had interceptions. Terra Nova (3-6, 0-5) has lost six straight games. According to the calpreps.com computer, Milpitas is the 36th-ranked team in the Central Coast Section, but it would need a lot of help to make the section playoffs. There are forty teams that qualify, but the Trojans would need one of the five at-large berths. Capuchino and Aragon have already clinched the PAL Ocean’s two automatic spots. – Michael Lefkow
