Weav.AI, Dashtoon, Frenetic, and Viso, four AI startups, recently raised a total of $31.2 million in early-stage funding.
The group attracted investors such as Accel, DeepMind’s Mehdi Ghissassi, and Sierra Ventures. Despite the dramatic drop in venture capital funding, the smattering of funding rounds demonstrates the intense investor appetite for startups working on breakthrough technology.
Insider received pitch decks from all four startups, which work in fields ranging from computer vision to AI-driven illustration. Take a look at them down below.
Viso raises round led by Spotify-backer Accel
Viso, a Swiss startup, received $9.2 million from venture capital firm Accel in October.
The startup, which was founded in 2018, has created a no-code platform that allows users to create and deploy computer vision applications, which use AI to analyze images and videos.
Creating computer vision applications is a time-consuming and complex task, and scaling this technology typically “requires significant infrastructure,” according to the startup. Its platform enables clients ranging from construction firms to logistics companies and city councils to manage and deploy computer vision tools from a single workspace.
“When we founded Viso in 2018, our core mission was to make disruptive technologies like computer vision widely accessible to all companies, not just those with the resources and expertise to fully utilize it,” Gaudenz Boesch, our co-founder and CEO, said “Since then, the demand for computer vision-based applications has exploded in nearly every industry.”
Accel led the round, having previously invested in Celonis, Spotify, and Slack. DeepMind’s head of product, Mehdi Ghissassi, and UiPath VP Mihai Faur also took part.
Viso used the following 12-slide pitch deck:
Weav.ai emerged from stealth in November with a $5 million seed round
Palo Alto-based Weav.ai has just emerged from stealth mode as it announced a $5 million seed round led by Sierra Ventures.
The generative AI startup has developed a suite of AI copilots for enterprises. These provide services such as managing prompts, foundation models, and vector databases, analyzing documents using natural language processing, and extracting data from documents and emails.
Its client base includes the likes of a multinational management consulting firm operating in over 40 countries, as well as an F100 pharmaceutical conglomerate.
The round, which closed in November 2022, was led by Sierra Ventures. With the funding, Weav.ai will open its platform for beta users and customers.
Dashtoon uses generative AI to enable content creators to make comics
Generative AI startup Dashtoon has secured $5 million from Matrix Partners India and Stellaris Venture Partners.
The startup, which is based in San Francisco and London, wants to enable creators to make digital comics and illustrations more easily.
It has developed a platform called Dashtoon Studio, which allows users to choose a character and generate images of them in just a few minutes. The platform deploys AI to edit the illustrated output, reducing the creation time of the overall generated content from a week to just a few days, by its own estimates.
Creators can also publish these characters and comics through Dashtoon’s reader app, which allows them to monetize their work.
The startup’s use of “generative AI will level the playing field for storytellers worldwide” and also “meet the diverse taste of global consumers,” said cofounder and CEO of Dashtoon, Sanidhya Narain.
The seed round was led by Matrix Partners India and Stellaris Venture Partners. With the funding, the startup will hone its research into how AI can further create storyboards and dialogues, and double down on its product offerings.
Frenetic applies AI to help companies design magnetics more efficiently
Madrid-based Frenetic has secured $12 million in Series A funding from Kibo Ventures.
The startup uses AI to speed up the design and development of magnetics. Often, designing magnetics — which is central to a lot of electrics — can be a difficult and time-consuming task. The process has thus far relied on trial and error, taking up to nine months to design a prototype.
Frenetic’s AI tools allow engineering teams to design and simulate these magnetics ahead of the prototype being produced. These tools are deployed to companies through its software platform, and available on a licensed basis.
Clients can start by choosing from a range of topologies for their magnets, and then use Frenetic’s AI algorithms to simulate the performance of these magnets. Once that is validated by its in-house engineering team, companies can order prototypes or units.
The round was led by Kibo Ventures, with participation from existing investors 42Cap, Join Capital, Bankinter, Bonsai, and Big Sur. With the fresh funding, the startup will grow its headcount and expand into the US.
