CIF water polo regionals: Miramonte girls, Sacred Heart Prep boys win Division I titles

Miramonte’s Rosalie Hassett, SHP’s Nelson Harris each score four goals in their team’s win. Leland girls beat Clovis North to capture Division II championship.

Girls Division I

No. 1 Miramonte 10, No. 2 Campolindo 5

Before they met on Saturday for the NorCal Division I championship at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, rivals Miramonte and Campolindo had played six previous times this season.

Miramonte won each of them.

The regional championship match was no different, as the Mats took command in the first quarter, leading 5-1, and never looked back, winning their third consecutive Division I title and fourth in the five tournaments played.

Rosalie Hassett led the way with four goals, three steals, and an assist, while Ally Larsen added three goals and Alison Sagara had six assists.

Miramonte also got goals from Audrina Kang, Bea Hearey, and Marta Maninetti, and goalie Eliana Bottene made eight saves.

The Mats finished the season 27-2, with their only defeat coming at the hands of Acalanes. Campo was defeated 21-8.

Boys Division I

1 Sacred Heart Prep 13, 3 Miramonte 10

Nelson Harris had four goals and three steals, and Clay Carrington and Andrew Spencer each finished with three goals and three assists to propel SHP to its third consecutive NorCal Division I title in a match at UOP.

SHP finished the season 24-7 thanks to two goals and an assist from Luke Kirincich and 11 saves from Murdoch Baker-Matsuoka.

Miramonte was defeated 17-12 by Henry Engs, Grant Kurtz, Brock Bliss, and Griff Tunney, who each scored twice.

The teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first quarter. SHP led 6-5 at halftime and 9-8 at the half.

Campolindo defeated second-seeded Buchanan 14-12 to win the Division II championship.

Girls Division II

Leland 16, Clovis North 10

Leland finished the season with a 9-4 lead at halftime and a 13-6 lead after three quarters on its way to defeating Clovis North for the NorCal Division II title at UOP.

Evie Burns scored five goals for the San Jose school just one day after scoring three in a 6-5 semifinal victory over Archie Williams.

Chrissy Flynn and Sofia DeRollo each had four goals, while Briana Livingston, Tara Sarhangnejad, and goalie Leo Jolissaint had one each.

Jolissaint finished with 10 saves after scoring at the end of the first half.

“Girls played their best game in this championship,” said coach Eric Rise in an email.
