CIF water polo regionals: Sacred Heart Prep outlasts De La Salle in OT thriller
SHP to face Miramonte for NorCal Division I title. In girls D-I, Campolindo edges SHP, will play Miramonte for championship.
Boys Division I
No. 1 Sacred Heart Prep (13 points), No. 4 De La Salle (12 points), OT
Oliver Marcin scored four goals and Andrew Spencer and Gates Gamble each had three goals to lead Sacred Heart Prep to a thrilling victory over De La Salle on Friday night at the University of the Pacific in Stockton in a classic boys water polo match for a spot in the CIF NorCal Division I final.
SHP (23-7) will face third-seeded Miramonte in the championship game on Saturday at UOP.
DLS won the game 19-9.
Before rallying to force overtime, SHP trailed 4-3 at halftime and 8-6 after three quarters.
For DLS, Davidka Skov had four goals and Breydon Congo had three. Sloan Brown and Lukas Peters each scored twice for the Spartans.
Girls Division I
Sacred Heart Prep 9, No. 2 Campolindo 10
Ana Pieper scored five goals and London Menard added three as Campolindo defeated Sacred Heart Prep in the NorCal Division I final at UOP.
The number two seed On Saturday at UOP, the Cougars will face top-seeded and league rival Miramonte for the championship.
SHP’s Vivan Golub had five goals and Natalia Szczerba had two.
Girls Division II
No. 1 Leland 6, Archie Williams 5
Evie Burns made a half-pool skip shot as time expired in the first half to tie the score 3-3, and top-seeded Leland went on to defeat Archie Williams in the semifinals of the NorCal Division II regional at St. Mary’s High in Stockton. Tasaria Kilpatrick scored twice in the second half for the Chargers, who will face second-seeded Clovis North for the championship on Saturday at UOP. Leland also received a goal from Sofia DeRollo.
Girls Division III
4th Stevenson 13, 1st Archbishop Mitty 9
Mitty’s bid for a regional championship fell short when the top-seeded Monarchs were defeated by Stevenson, also from the Central Coast Section, in a semifinal match at UOP on Friday.
“Emmerson Ferriera of Stevenson is an incredible offensive force for their program,” Mitty coach Eve Okamura stated in an email. “She created so many scoring opportunities for her team today, and I was impressed by her tenacity.” “We will root for our CCS team and hope Stevenson wins the championship.”
Mitty was led by Maddie Caputo, who had three goals and two assists. Lauren Glazzy had two goals and one assist for the Monarchs, while Bridget Juul had one goal, one assist, and one steal.
Gracie Imrisek, Mia Arriaga, and Claire Gluzman also scored for Mitty.
“It’s always an honor to play a competitive game at this level and am grateful to our team for having gotten this far,” he told reporters.
