Dumbarton Bridge eastbound closed overnight next week: Roadshow
Plus: Readers share how they’ve fixed errors on Apple Maps
Q: Could you tell me why there aren’t any signs indicating the Dumbarton Bridge exit on Highway 101 north near Palo Alto? After you’ve committed to this exit, the only visible sign is on Willow Street.
Jeanne Conboy is an actress.
A: I’ll forward your inquiry to Caltrans.
Caltrans will close the Dumbarton Bridge in the eastbound direction for five nights, from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3, for repaving from the east end of the bridge to the toll plaza. Every night between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., eastbound lanes will be closed. The westbound lanes will be kept open.
Drivers traveling from San Francisco and San Mateo to the East Bay can take the San Mateo Bridge from San Mateo to Hayward. Drivers from the South Bay can take Highway 237 to Milpitas or Fremont.
Q: I, too, have recently encountered issues with Apple Maps providing incorrect directions. Siri told me to turn right and head north on Interstate 280 as I passed the summit on Highway 17 earlier this week. An easy mistake to overlook, but still concerning.
Scotts Valley resident Eric Rice
A: Eric is referring to another reader’s request for Apple Maps to be corrected.
Q: Apple Maps and Google Maps both have corrections sections in their apps. I requested that Apple Maps correct an error in their maps that overlooked an exit-only lane on Almaden Expressway southbound at Capitol Expressway. An article in Popular Science explains how to report errors.

Q: I’ve had good luck with Apple Maps by using the “report an issue” button at the bottom of Maps. I’ve also had success doing the same thing with Google Maps.

Q: This one is simple. Send a letter to Apple’s Tim Cook via USPS. Alternatively, use Google Maps or Waze. I employ all three.

A: Many thanks to everyone who offered suggestions for improving Maps information. I knew you’d come through for me.
