Felony charges filed in Antioch sideshow crash that injured two
OAKLAND, Calif. — Authorities said an Antioch man was charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor after allegedly crashing into two people during a recent sideshow.
According to court records, the suspect, 21, is being held in lieu of $191,000 bail. He faces two felony reckless driving counts, a felony hit-and-run charge, and a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license.
In a news release issued Wednesday, the Contra Costa District Attorney’s office announced the charges.
The accident occurred during an early morning sideshow at Antioch’s Marina Plaza. On August 6, just before 3 a.m., the man allegedly crashed into another car at West 9th and G streets. According to authorities, two people were injured, one seriously.
According to the news release, the man attempted to flee after the collision, but was apprehended by an officer.
District Attorney Diana Becton used the opportunity to condemn sideshows, which are a frequent source of public annoyance among local residents.
“The District Attorney’s Office will continue to be vigilant in prosecuting offenses stemming from sideshows under California law,” Becton said in a written statement.
