The 2025 Met Gala is almost here.

In a few hours, celebrities will start to arrive at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to attend the prestigious fundraising event, themed this year as “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

In celebration of menswear and Black dandyism, attendees have been given a loose dress code titled “Tailored for You,” which Vogue has said is open to interpretation. Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, and ASAP Rocky will co-chair the event.

Here’s what to know before the red carpet starts.

The events’ co-chairs and committee members rotate every year, setting the tone for the gala.

The 2025 Met Gala co-chairs — Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, and ASAP Rocky — are all known for their bold approaches to menswear.

LeBron James also served as an honorary chair for the gala, but he announced on X on Monday that he would be unable to attend because of a knee injury.

“Hate to miss an historical event,” he wrote, adding that his wife, Savannah James, will still be attending. “My beautiful powerful Queen will be there holding the castle down as she always has done!”

Wintour has never made the co-chairs’ exact responsibilities public, but they’re said to help plan the event’s dress code and dinner. They also promote the event, and alongside the Met Gala’s committee members, they are usually the first people to arrive on the event’s red carpet.

The 2025 Met Gala committee is full of A-list stars, including Tyla, Ayo Edebiri, and Simone Biles.

This year’s Met Gala is themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

Vogue reported that the theme was inspired by Black dandyism, menswear, and “the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.”

Black dandyism, specifically, is a style and movement that’s been embraced by Black men since the 18th century. It typically involves sharp dressing — think tailored suits, hats, and canes — to assert individuality, culture, and equality.

Met Gala guests have been given a loose dress code titled “Tailored For You,” though it’s open to interpretation. Still, Vogue said we can expect to see a surplus of suits, canes, pocket squares, and other pieces related to dandyism.

This year will also mark the second time the Costume Institute exhibit is focused on menswear. The museum previously hosted the “Bravehearts: Men in Skirts” display between November 2003 and February 2004.
