Juveniles on e-bikes not following rules of the road in Los Gatos
There have been numerous reports of riders blocking traffic and taunting pedestrians.
Oct. 24
9:57 a.m. SUSPICIOUS PERSON: Los Gatos-Saratoga Road and University Avenue. A man with rotting teeth walked away with a chainsaw after abandoning his bicycle on the center median. When officers arrived, he was gone.
Oct. 25
BURGLARY
Villa Avenue at 10:17 a.m. Someone broke into a car and stole a laptop, an iPad, a drone, and cellphones.
PET THEFT: 1:46 p.m. on Los Gatos Boulevard at Nob Hill Foods. While she was in the store, a woman’s wallet and phone were stolen from her purse.
THEFT OF A PETTY: 3:27 p.m. on Anne Way. A man mentioned his Remington six-shooter in black.22 was taken about two months ago. He believes his sister took it.
Oct. 26
SUSPICIOUS PERSON: 7:38 a.m. on University Avenue at Casa Vasona Garden Apartments. When a man left his house, he noticed two people wearing hoodies, one with a ski mask, following him. He claimed that he and his sister were followed during a road rage incident a few days ago, and the suspect brandished a firearm. That suspect was later apprehended, but the man has been paranoid ever since.
8:43 a.m. VEHICLE CODE VIOLATION at Camino Del Cerro and Escobar Avenue. A caller stated that there have been ongoing issues with juveniles riding electric bicycles who are not obeying traffic laws. They also appear to purposefully taunt pedestrians. The caller noticed them approaching an older man walking with a cane. He believes they rode very close to him on purpose in order to cause him to fall.
5:26 p.m. on Pine Wood Lane, PETTY THEFT. Someone approached a woman who was out for a walk. Her gold chain was missing when she returned home.
Oct. 27
JUVENILE DISTURBANCE: West Main Street at 12:18 p.m. A swarm of teenagers sat in the back plot, holding pumpkins and crowding the space.
5:19 p.m. VEHICLE CODE VIOLATION at North Santa Cruz Avenue and Grays Lane. Around 15 young people were riding electric bikes. The caller stated that they ride on both the sidewalk and the road.
5:31 p.m.: JUVENILE DISTURBANCE at Winchester Boulevard and Knowles Drive. Around 12 young people were riding electric bikes and running red lights.
5:43 p.m.: JUVENILE DISTURBANCE at Winchester Boulevard and Wimbledon Drive. Several young people were riding electric bikes and blocking traffic.
