Man arrested in connection with Mountain View park fire
VIEW FROM THE MOUNTAIN – On Tuesday, police arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of setting fire to a dumpster at Cuesta Park in Mountain View.
The fire was reported around 9:30 p.m., according to a news release from the Mountain View Police Department. At the time, there were still families and small children in the park.
Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby trees and bushes, as well as a church.
There were no reported injuries.
According to police, firefighters and officers spoke with the suspect at the scene and discovered items that could have been used to start the fire. He was later arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County jail on arson and vandalism charges.
