McClymonds to host Silver Bowl after Skyline forfeits semifinal game
McClymonds will host Oakland Section flag and tackle football championships on Nov. 25
OAKLAND — After Skyline forfeited its semifinal game against the Warriors, McClymonds will host the Oakland Athletic League championship game, also known as the Silver Bowl.
On November 25, the game will begin at 7 p.m. McClymonds will face the winner of the Oakland Tech-Castlemont game.
Skyline dropped out, Oakland Section commissioner Franky Navarro told the Bay Area News Group on Wednesday morning, after firing first-year head coach Jonathan Carroll on Monday.
According to Navarro, the school notified the section of its decision on Tuesday afternoon.
Carroll’s dismissal is not clear.
Skyline did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Bay Area News Group.
Fremont-Oakland tied Skyline for fourth place in the OAL standings, but lost a coin toss for the right to play McClymonds on Saturday.
Because Skyline didn’t make a coaching decision until midweek, replaying McClymonds’ opponent was out of the question.
“At that time, it was too late to get Fremont in the fold,” said Navarro.
Navarro stated that the OAL teams agreed to allow McClymonds, the overwhelming favorite, to host the Silver Bowl.
Mack had planned to honor longtime coach Michael Peters, who announced his retirement at the end of the season, by inviting former players and assistant coaches to his final home game.
“Peters means a lot to us and the league, and it’s only right that he’s able to be honored the way he’d planned to,” Navarro said in a statement.
The Silver Bowl will last all day. The consolation bracket girls flag football games begin at 2 p.m., followed by the flag championship at 4 p.m.
The annual Silver Bowl will begin at 7 p.m.
