No. 4 Sacred Heart Prep 3, Notre Dame-San Jose 0
SHP, ranked fourth by the Bay Area News Group, defeated San Jose 25-14, 25-15, 25-17, with senior Isabelle Marco contributing 11 kills, three aces, six digs, and one block. Mia Radeff led the team with seven kills, seven digs, and three aces. Jillian Amaro and Erika Maas, senior setters for SHP, combined for 24 assists, and Naomi Watson stood tall in the middle, contributing six kills and three blocks.
No. 6 Menlo-Atherton 3, Hillsdale 0
Menlo-Atherton finished the regular season 13-0 in league play after defeating Hillsdale 25-11, 25-19, 25-19 for the third time in a row. Meki Maile, a junior, had 29 assists and one ace, while Sienna Morales had 12 kills and two blocks. Dani Eline, a junior, had 13 kills and eight digs, and Kiela King had 13 digs and three assists.
No. 9 Menlo School 3, Notre Dame-Belmont 0
Menlo School won the West Bay Athletic League title with a 25-20, 25-21, 25-17 home victory over Notre Dame-Belmont. Junior Lily Kautai had four blocks and 24 assists, while Aaliyah Sanders and Cleo Hardin each had eight kills. Menlo School finished league play with a 7-1 record thanks to Ava Wang’s nine digs.
No. 10 Palo Alto 3, Los Altos 1
Palo Alto defeated Los Altos 25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 25-22 to cap a memorable regular season for coach Chris Crader’s Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division champion Vikings.
“It was the first time anyone in that league went 12-0 in four years,” Crader wrote in an email. “Additionally, Paly only lost 7 sets in 12 league matches; the fewest sets lost for a De Anza division in nine years.”
Senior Kylie Yen served a 12-point run to begin what was described as a great all-around match with Maura Hambly. Setter Sophie Mies and junior Mackenzie Zhao were outstanding on offense and defense for the Vikings, who will learn their Central Coast Section playoff seeding and opponent on Thursday.
No. 11 James Logan 3, Mission San Jose 0
In the first round of the North Coast Section Division I playoffs, James Logan defeated Mission San Jose 25-18, 25-23, and 25-10. McKenzie Anderson had 20 kills and 14 digs, while Hannah Issenmann had 10 kills. Leann Jung had 24 assists and 11 digs, while Julianna Bondoc had 31 digs. Logan will face Marin Catholic in a quarterfinal matchup on Saturday.
No. 12 San Ramon Valley 3, Santa Rosa 0
San Ramon Valley defeated Santa Rosa 25-11, 25-14, 27-25 in the first round of the NCS Division I playoffs. Senior setter Audree Vasconi led the team with 19 assists, nine digs, and two aces. Lucy Chertock had seven kills and three digs, while Maddie Connelly had six kills and two blocks. SRV advanced to a second-round match against California on Saturday, led by sophomore MH Jenna Hunt’s seven kills.
Albany 3, Kennedy-Fremont 0
After sweeping visiting Kennedy, Albany advanced to the second round of the NCS Division III playoffs. Hannah Hajnal did it all for the winners, dishing out 24 assists to go along with nine digs and two kills. Sally Winnacker led the team with nine kills, four aces, and seven digs. The match point was one of her aces. As Albany won each set 25-22, Katie Walters had 14 digs, one ace, and three assists.
Quarry Lane 1, Salesian 3
After defeating Quarry Lane, the Pride advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCS Division V playoffs. Kaya Ferreira and Eva Gonzales were both crucial in the attack, and setter Ela Lucas was “absolutely on fire” in the match, according to coach Michaela Ahlenslager. Salesian won by scores of 19-25, 25-23, 25-17, and 25-10 and will play Cloverdale on Saturday.
WATER POLO FOR GIRLS
Mission San Jose 9, Newark Memorial 4
Ozzy Lim and Kira Clark of MSJ’s dynamic scoring duo did their thing against Newark Memorial in a Mission Valley Athletic League playoff game, with Lim scoring four goals and Clark getting three past the keeper. Sharvi Verma and Trisha Karkera each scored one goal to assist the team captains. Karkera, a freshman, also performed admirably on defense. Goalkeeper Marissa White, according to coach Ryan Tang, was “a big stand out.”
Berkeley 6, Castro Valley 7
Castro Valley defeated Berkeley in the first round of the West Alameda County Conference playoffs, led by Isabelle Nicole’s three goals. Alenea Loera scored twice, and Stella Chang and Nina Henry each scored once. As the team’s goalkeeper, Peyton Sklut had four blocks. Castro Valley, now 18-7, will face its next opponent on Wednesday.
BOYS WATER POLO
Piedmont 15, Encinal 6
Piedmont cruised past Encinal in the first round of the WACC playoffs, led by a balanced offense. George Stein had four goals, two steals, and an assist, while Finn Burke, another senior, had three goals. Daniel Banin had two goals, two assists, and two ejections, while Declan Linnane had two goals, two assists, three steals, and two ejections. Luke McAuliffe, a sophomore goalkeeper, had seven blocks.
GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL
Oakland Tech 27, Campolindo 0
In Oakland Tech’s win over Campolindo, Jhai Johnson threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns. The daughter of NFL quarterback Josh Johnson threw the majority of her passes to Nailah Davis, who hauled in 151 yards and two touchdowns. Payton Henderson scored again, and Tai’Ana Houff scored and intercepted one Campo pass. Oakland had an interception thanks to Aaryn Alton.
Foothill 44, Dublin 6
In Foothill’s rout of Dublin, Melissa McMillin threw six touchdown passes and four 2-point conversions. Claire Young caught three of those touchdown passes and one two-point conversion. GiGi Guerrero, Olivia Walinski, and Bree Olsen all had one receiving touchdown, and Guerrero, Jessie Gadd, and Jazmine Simmons all caught two-point conversions. For the Foothill defense, Gadd and Megan Ngim each had an interception.
Foothill 42, Amador Valley 0
McMillin and the passing attack didn’t let up against their Pleasanton rivals, Amador Valley. McMillin completed five touchdown passes and two 2-point conversions. Guerrero had three touchdown receptions, while Gadd and Walinski each had one. Interceptions were recorded by Gadd, Ngim, and Brooklyn Still.

Jessica Tonegato was outstanding on Tuesday night, rushing for 72 yards and drawing five penalties in a rout. Hailey Martinez was described as “dynamic” by coach Joe Berticevich after scoring one touchdown, intercepting two passes, and pulling eight flags. Abbie Mackintosh had two touchdowns and one interception. One of Elizabeth Phinney’s four touchdown passes was caught by Sara Maccioni. Pioneer’s record now stands at 11-3-1.
San Ramon Valley 26, Monte Vista 14
Sacred Heart Cathedral 12, San Ramon Valley 6
On senior night, the Wolves split a doubleheader. Elise Doyle, a senior defender, had two pass breakups, and Kaitlyn Bray scored on the ground. Olivia Wheatley and Ella Gunderson both scored on the ground, as did Onessa Yee. Sydney Gann and Tori Petersen both had interceptions.
Gunderson shook free for a touchdown in the next game against Sacred Heart Cathedral, and Hania Bowes intercepted a pass.
Livermore 7, Granada 32
Isabel Moen exploded against Livermore, rushing for eight and 40-yard touchdowns and throwing two more. Kate Brongiel scored from 20 yards out, and Teagan Bailiff scored from 24 yards out. Kayla Clarin scored from 21 yards out.
