PLAYOFFS IN THE CCS
Division One
Leigh 0, Los Gatos 3
Los Gatos focused on playing a clean match with few errors in preparation for its quarterfinal match against seventh-seeded Leigh on Tuesday night at home. To that end, the Wildcats performed admirably, winning 25-17, 25-22, and 25-19.
“The team really put that practice mindset into play, and I could not be more proud of our team,” said coach Nicole Ciari in an email. “It was great to see all that hard work in practice was paying off.”
Britt Melinauskas, a freshman right-side hitter, had “an amazing match” as the team’s setters worked hard to get her the ball. Melinauskas was Los Gatos’ “big point scorer,” according to Ciari.
Los Gatos’ attack was diversified by setter Maya Walker, making the Wildcats unpredictable and creating scoring opportunities.
“Every ball they could up in the back row and worked well together in serve receive,” Ciari said of Sarah Herman, Mia Halsey, and Nicole Steiner.
On Thursday, Los Gatos (17-9) will host third-seeded Branham. The Bruins advanced with a 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-13 win over Carlmont.
