San Jose man is second pedestrian killed in two days on same stretch of Highway 101
He was out of his car when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in San Martin
A San Jose man was killed by a hit-and-run driver on Highway 101 in San Martin, just one day after another pedestrian was killed on the same stretch of road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident happened at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, on southbound 101 near San Martin Avenue. According to the CHP report, the man, whose name has not been released, had pulled his car over to the highway’s shoulder and gotten out, and was in a traffic lane when he was hit.
The vehicle that hit him kept driving.
At the scene, the man was pronounced dead.
The CHP provided no information about the hit-and-run vehicle and stated that the circumstances of the death were still being investigated.
The day before, around 12:30 p.m., a 36-year-old Riverside man was killed on the shoulder of southbound 101 near San Martin Avenue. He was standing next to his vehicle, resecuring cargo, when an Oakland man driving a box truck veered onto the shoulder and struck him.
The truck driver, who was unharmed, stayed at the scene.
