Top 10 U.S. destinations for fall getaways — including two in California

Fall is here, with its falling leaves, pumpkin patches, and cider doughnuts. If you’re looking for a fall getaway, PureWow, a lifestyle website based in New York City, has plenty of ideas, including a list of 31 fall vacation destinations. We’re not sure why they chose 31 — perhaps a penchant for prime numbers? — but it includes hot spots for leaf peepers, romance seekers, and nature lovers alike.

California received four mentions in total, with Yosemite National Park ranking sixth and Napa Valley ranking eighth. Because of its towering redwoods and peaceful trails, Humboldt County’s Redwood National and State Parks ranked 11th. According to the website, visitors to San Francisco (No. 19) can “enjoy days filled with farmers markets, street fairs, and football games.” (They were so excited about it that we didn’t have the heart to tell them the stadium is in Santa Clara, an hour’s drive south.)

Here’s a sample of the list. All 31 can be found at www.purewow.com/travel/, along with sightseeing and hotel recommendations.
