SF Giants starter Kyle Harrison scratched; John Brebbia starts in place

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Due to an illness, Giants rookie Kyle Harrison was scratched from his start against the San Diego Padres.

On Tuesday night, Harrison was scheduled to make his seventh big league start, but the team announced 25 minutes before the 6:45 p.m. first pitch that John Brebbia would take his place.

Logan Webb told the NBC Sports Bay Area broadcast after his complete game win on Monday night that he pitched through a nasty cold and sounded nasal over the mic. Since his call-up and debut on Aug. 22 against the Philadelphia Phillies, the 22-year-old has made six starts.

Harrison has struggled since, and he was optioned on September 15 after struggling in three starts against the Padres, Colorado Rockies, and Cleveland Guardians. Soon after, he was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to replace Alex Cobb in the rotation, who had been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a left hip impingement. Harrison has a 4.85 ERA, 31 strikeouts, and eight home runs allowed, including a four-homer performance earlier this season against the Padres.

In the minutes before first pitch, the Giants made another roster move, placing pitcher Jakob Junis on the 10-day IL with a cervical strain and recalling catcher Joey Bart from Triple-A Sacramento to replace him on the active roster. Junis should be out for the rest of the season, with five games remaining, including Tuesday.
