A Michelin Bib Gourmand Mexican restaurant is set to open in Emeryville

The third outpost of Flores features handmade masa and avocado-salsa margaritas.

Flores, a Mexican restaurant whose San Francisco location has received a Michelin Bib Gourmand award, has joined the dining scene at the Bay Street Emeryville shopping mall.

Flores is set to open on November 3 at 5614 Bay St., Suite 244, right next to Arthur Mac’s Little Snack, a new pizza and hot-wings joint. It will soon be joined in the shopping mall by a Fogo de Cho, which is nearing completion based on the work done on its facade this week, and a Mumu Hot Pot, which specializes in interactive dining with meat and vegetables cooked at the table.

Flores is part of the Back of the House restaurant group, which also operates a Flores in Corte Madera in addition to the flagship location in San Francisco. The Emeryville restaurant will be divided into two sections: a full-service restaurant and a Flores Taqueria next door, which will serve grab-and-go tacos, bowls, and salads. Customers can build their own meals, similar to Chipotle, by selecting beans, rice, pico de gallo, avocado, dressing, and so on. The Taqueria will open tomorrow, Oct. 26, with the first 50 customers receiving a free burrito.

The Flores menu will highlight the “incredible diversity of hyperlocal Mexican cuisine,” according to an email from the restaurant group. This includes shrimp and mahi-mahi ceviche, big-eye tuna tostadas with chipotle aioli, handmade crispy masa dumplings, and tacos with carnitas, chicken tinga, “vegetariano,” and fish with escabeche fillings.

The restaurant’s Cow Hollow location has been praised by the Michelin Guide for its lively atmosphere, friendly staff, and, of course, good food. More from Michelin: “Flores is among the city’s best upscale Mexican spots — with the added benefit of larger portions and a lower price tag.” The handmade corn tortillas that encase an oozy huitlacoche quesadilla and the tender, citrusy carnitas will let you know. Save room for churros: the spicy dipping sauce for ‘Mexican hot chocolate’ is well worth the calories.”

The full-service restaurant will open on November 3rd, with hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and until 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday. The Taqueria will open on October 26 and will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 5614 Bay St., Suite 244, Emeryville (floressf.com).
