Saratoga burglar eats victim’s food, steals clothes

Incident one of several residential burglaries recently reported in city

Sept. 25

Stolen vehicle: Between noon on August 7 and 10 a.m. on August 15, a trailer valued at $6,867 was stolen from the 19000 block of Redberry Drive.

Sept. 26

Residential burglary: Between 11 p.m. on Sept. 18 and 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 26, someone broke a rear sliding glass door in the 15000 block of Norton Road, then ate food and stole clothes.

Deputies responded to a disturbance at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church on Saratoga Avenue at 12:23 p.m. An investigation revealed that the suspect was unable to care for himself due to the effects of alcohol. The suspect was apprehended.

Sept. 27

Between 8:58 p.m. on Sept. 26 and 4:49 p.m. on Sept. 27, someone broke through the window of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence in the 18000 block of Martha Avenue and stole the vehicle’s registration, owner’s manual, and insurance paperwork from the glovebox.

Vehicle burglary: Between 10 p.m. on September 26 and 1 p.m. on September 27, someone broke through the windows of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home in the 12000 block of Miller Avenue and stole tools worth $400.

Deputies were conducting a patrol check of the Westgate Corner shopping center on Prosect Road at 1:30 a.m. when they noticed a suspicious vehicle. Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle for equipment and traffic violations, but the driver refused to yield and evaded, and the pursuit was eventually called off. The suspect is still at large.

At 12:21 p.m., someone stole a wallet from a purse at Safeway in the Argonaut Shopping Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road, resulting in a $40 loss.

At 6:13 p.m., two suspects entered Safeway in the Argonaut Shopping Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road, acted in concert, and stole approximately $1,500 in merchandise.

At 8:58 p.m., someone attempted to enter a residence in the 19000 block of Kerwin Ranch Court by breaking a sliding glass door, but fled the scene before gaining entry when the act was interrupted by the residents who were present.

Sept. 28

Residential burglary: Between 8:28 p.m. on Sept. 27 and 2:53 p.m. on Sept. 28, someone broke a sliding glass door and entered a residence in the 18000 block of Monte Vista Drive.

Sept. 29

Grand theft: Between 3 p.m. on Sept. 28 and 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 29, someone stole a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home in the 13000 block of Myren Drive, resulting in a $2,500 loss.

Two suspects stole a vehicle from the 18000 block of Aspesi Drive at 2:34 a.m., leaving it unlocked with keys inside.

Sept. 30

Petty theft, credit card theft: Between 10 p.m. on September 29 and 3:08 p.m. on September 30, the suspect stole a cellular phone belonging to a Saratoga resident from a San Jose bar for about $230. The suspect then used the phone to access the victim’s online retail application and made fraudulent purchases with the credit card information saved to the account, resulting in a $3,287 loss.

Evasion, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia: Deputies responded to an automated license plate reader notification of a stolen vehicle at Saratoga Avenue and Highway 85 at 3:17 p.m. An investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen in San Jose and was still on the loose. A short time later, the vehicle was discovered parked in a nearby shopping center, where two suspects exited the vehicle and one was seen entering a store. When deputies arrived, the driver remained in the stolen vehicle and fled the scene. The stolen vehicle was pursued, but the driver evaded recklessly, and the pursuit was eventually called off. One suspect was discovered hiding inside a store’s dressing room with heroin and drug paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant.

Oct. 1

Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone accessed their bank accounts using their personal information and withdrew $3,400.
